A 社会安全号码 is a government identification number/tax identification number issued to all residents of the United States. Most residents receive this number as children. It is not necessary for international students to have a social security number, unless they need it for an authorized 就业 opportunity. All students need a social security number in order to be able to start work in the U.S. There is no charge for social security numbers.

    • On-campus jobs do not require authorization from the International Student Advisor

  • You must wait 10 working days (after arriving to the U.S.) before you can apply for a 社会安全号码.

What do I need to apply for a 社会安全号码?

The Social Security Office will only issue a Social Security number provided that you have the requirements below, and the start of your 就业 is within a month of your application.
